This highly reputed MA provides training to research level in the Leicester approach to English Local History as a subject which is comparative across the nation; topographically grounded; cultural in its concerns; sensitive to long-term chronologies; conceptually aware and inter-disciplinary in its methodologies.

It is more suited to overseas students, or UK students who find it difficult to attend the regular MA classes, lectures and other events, or who wish to write a longer dissertation.

Entry requirementsNormally an upper second-class honours degree in History or a cognate subject. Applications are also invited from those who do not possess the normal admission requirements but who can show enthusiasm and competence by having attended relevant certificate courses, by submitting published work or by writing qualifying essays to a first degree standard.English Language RequirementsApplicants whose first language is not English, and who have not lived in a country where the first language is English for at least three years immediately before the start of their course, need to satisfy the University´s English language requirement. * From students who take IELTS (the British Council´s International English Language Testing System), we look for an overall score of 6.0 or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 6.5 or above for all other courses. * From students who take TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), we look for 575/233/90* or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 600/250/100* for all other courses.
