Who should study English specialising in Literature in English?
Successful candidates to the programme are those who are interested in becoming part of the international field of English Literature studies, or who have a general interest in literature and culture. The programme is suitable for students with a bachelors degree with a major in English, Comparative Literature, or similar fields. Documented good command of both oral and written English is required.

This Masters Degree Programme has been devised so that students studying full-time can complete the programme within one academic year. The programme consists of 60 credits (1 credit = 1 ECTS) distributed amongst a number of obligatory and elective courses as follows:

* Scholarly Writing in Literary Theory and Criticism (EN3014)

* Contemporary Irish Fiction (EN3029)
* American Fiction: 1960s to the Present (EN3056)
* Exile in African Writing in English (EN3036)
* Modern, Postmodern and Postcolonial Studies (EN3060)

Semester 2 (Spring)

* Advanced Literary Theory (EN3057)
* Master-Degree Thesis in Literature (EN3055)

Elective Courses

* Advanced Literary Theory (EN3058)
* The Contemporary African Novel (EN3027)
* Ireland in Film and Drama (EN3028)

Elective courses are subject to change from term to term.

* 1 credit = 1 ECTS

* 1.5 credits corresponds to one week of full-time studies.
* 60 credits corresponds to one year of full-time studies.
* All courses can be taken as web-based courses and studied at either 100%, 50% or 25% study rate. Note that the degree you will receive is called a One-Year Master even if it takes you longer to finish your studies.

Bachelor degree of at least 180 ECTS credits including an essay in English of at least 5,000 words, or a corresponding qualification. The issues treated in the essay and the method used must be relevant to the selected specialization of the masters programme.English Language ProficiencyAll our international programmes and most of our single-subject courses at all levels require English proficiency that corresponds to English B (EnB) at Swedish upper-secondary school.Note: * Applicants from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and the USA do not have to prove their English proficiency. * Applicants from West Africa can demonstrate their proficiency with a "Pass" in English language in WAEC/NECO tests.Applicants are advised to submit certificates and transcripts from upper- secondary school together with the Higher Education document, as they may be relevant upon assessment of English language eligibility.
