The principal aim of the Institute of Educational Sciences, which was established in academic year 2000-2001, is to train persons needed in the educational sector both in Turkey and in our country, educate specialists in the educational sciences and make scientific contributions to the field of educational sciences.

The institute provides training in initial teacher training which takes place within the BA program, and non-thesis and with thesis MA programs in field branch teaching.

The four-year training based teacher training program qualifies students to become in state schools at elementary and secondary level, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Higher Education Committee.

The aim of the MA program in branch teaching is to train teachers for secondary level state or private schools.

The Institute, not only train specialists and contribute to advances in science through non-thesis and with thesis MA programs, but also undertake an important role in declining the level of education to a contemporary level by improving professional knowledge and qualifications of teachers.

CONTENTS
ÇEY501 Introduction to Environmental Science

This module mainly emphasizes; the notion of environment, historical development of the environmental science, and the impact of humans on the environment. In addition to the above, population and environment, and regional and local environmental problems such as; water, earth, air, radioactive pollution and other pollution sources are also emphasized. Furthermore the following topics are also closely reviewed: Biological variety and the relative condition in Turkey, Flora and fauna, endemic animals and plant types, endangered species, environmental establishments and their activities, environmental education, sustainable development.

ÇEY517 Environment, Community and Technology

This module aims to provide information on the following: Environmental quality indicators;background and principles, the notion of ecosystem, resources, mineral cycling in living systems, population, food and starvation, energy and environment, and the impact of human activities on health and environment. In addition to the above, wastes and diseases, water pollution, water pollutants and supervision, air pollution, local and global problems, solid wastes and their management, land uses and relative issues, technology and environment and industrial pollution, reduction of wastes, and issues of hazardous wastes; communal and ethical, are all considered deeply.

ÇEY521 Research on Environmental Science

This module involves a close study of: Basic concepts relative to research on environmental science, the process of the research and facilitated techniques, the model and design of the research, and projects on environmental education. The relationship between environmental science and basic concepts such as; the phenomenon, knowledge, absoluteness, universal information, etc. are emphasized. In addition to the above, basic information on the history of science, structure of research, scientific methods and different opinions on these methods, research models, population and sample, data collection and methods of data collection; quantitative and qualitative methods, data reporting, analysis, data interpretation and writing the dissertation are all considered deeply.

ÇEY511 Seminar

In this module, students are provided with the necessary knowledge and skills relevant to; the determination of the thesis topic, identification of the required methods and techniques which will be facilitated in the research, and the development of the methods in conducting a research.

ÇEY512 Thesis

Students who complete the modules of this program are required to carry out a research; which is carried out under the supervision of an adviser. The process of this research includes; the preparation of the thesis proposal, getting an approval for the proposal, literature review relative to the chosen field of study, the writing and presentation of the thesis; to the thesis committee and getting an approval.

Requirements for Applications to Postgraduate Master’s programs of Near East University are as follows:

  1. Graduating from a BSc or BA level undergraduate program (Min. CGPA 2.50)
  2. English Proficiency: TOEFL and other Qualifications may be considered.
  3. Turkish Proficiency (Required only for foreign students applying to Departments whereby the language of instruction is Turkish. Students applying to the Faculty of Medicine or Dentistry are required to have knowledge of the Turkish Language before beginning clinical training).
