Near East University, which is one of the most important education, science and culture centres in the Mediterranean, has an international identity with its high-level education opportunities and strong academic team. Near East University, which was established in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, in 1988, has a multicultural education tradition with 20,000 students from 143 different countries.
Our university continues its scientific activities with its 21 faculties, 5 colleges, 196 undergraduate and graduate programs, 235 post graduate and doctorate programs, 1,292 lecturers, 104 research and application laboratories and 32 research and application centres.
Near East University aims to create commercial value and to play an active role in social transformation by contributing to local development, with its education and research vision combined with its 4th generation university approach to not only produce knowledge, but also to patent its research.
The mass production of GÜNSEL, the first and only automobile of Cyprus, which is 100% electric, is being developed on campus and continual investments are being made in the second phase production facility. Additionally, the COVID-19 PCR Diagnosis Laboratory conducts analysis of the variants of COVID-19 identified in the country. Near East University also signed an agreement with an Italian company to produce a Protective Nasal Spray in the TRNC, of which it is a project and patent partner. After the completion of the necessary legal process, the spray will be available in Cyprus and is already being used in Italy. Furthermore, it aims to present PCR diagnosis kits that it has researched and developed for use in the near future.
Near East University also provides many opportunities for its students to apply the theoretical knowledge that they have obtained into practice through many projects such as this that have scientific value. With these opportunities that it provides, the Near East University was ranked in the first 30 worldwide in terms of the quality of education in the “2021 World Universities Impact Rankings” published by the Times Higher Education.
Near East University also has a strong art culture. Near East University which resembles an open-air museum with over 100 artistic sculptures on campus, also hosts the country’s first classic car museum, the Cyprus Car Museum, the Cyprus Modern Arts Museum, which has a rich variety of art, and the Cyprus Herbarium and Natural History Museum, which provides the opportunity for visitors to see all of the island’s natural history and up to 35,000 items under one roof.
Near East University, which has a fully equipped Medical Faculty Hospital, Dental Hospital and Animal Hospital, Sports Tower, Olympic Swimming Pool, Super Computer, Grand Library providing access to 2.5 million printed books and 650 million digital resources, and student dormitories, offers a campus life where science, art, culture and sports are intertwined.
Near East University, which provides a multicultural education atmosphere with its students from 143 different countries, stands out as an important centre attracting students from neighbouring regions, especially Africa, North Africa and the Middle East, due to its location in the Mediterranean. Additionally, Near East University, which is preferred by many students from European and Asian countries, has also been attracting increased interest from Chinese students in recent years. The multicultural international identity of Near East University is also reflected in its membership of different international organisations. Near East University is a full member of the European University Association (EUA), the International Association of Universities (IAU) within the body of UNESCO, IGIP, JCI, the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW), and AVICENNA.
