Humans are using more and more of the earth's natural resources and putting it under increasing pressure. Learn the science behind these environmental problems, and find out how to look for solutions to make sure the planet is sustainable for future generations.

Environmental Science is about how humans connect with and change the natural environment. Gain an understanding of this relationship, drawing on a range of sciences including Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Maths and Physics. The state of the planet is one of the biggest issues facing humankind today. Learn to assess environmental problems and find solutions.

Must be studied with one partner major drawn from: Applied Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Ecology and Biodiversity, Geography, Geology, Geophysics, Marine Biology, Mathematics, Physical Geography, Physics, or Statistics.

Complete four courses from BIOL, CHEM, ESCI, GEOG, MATH, PHYS, STAT 100-199, including:

  • Statistics for the Natural and Social Sciences (STAT 193)
  • One course in MATH

Complete Environment and Resources: New Zealand Perspectives (ENVI 214) and courses worth 40 points from BIOL, CHEM, ESCI, GEOG, MATH, PHYS or STAT 200-299 (in addition to those required by the partner major).

Complete courses worth at least 60 points at 300 level, including:

  • Topics in Environmental Science (ENSC 301)
  • Either Directed Individual Study (ENSC 302) or Directed Individual Study (ENSC 303)
  • Further approved 300-level course(s)

Requirements

  • Achievement of the International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • Submit your completed application to be assessed for New Zealand entrance equivalency
  • IELTS: minimum overall score of 6.0 with no sub-score below 5.5
  • TOEFL: minimum overall score of 80 (internet-based test)
  • Pearson Test of English: minimum score of 58 (with a 'Communicative score' of not less than 50)
  • EPP: minimum final scores of 4,4,4,3
