The general business bachelor’s degree provides a solid understanding of the fundamental areas in business: finance, accounting, management and marketing. The program is designed to prepare students for the diverse environment of the business world.

Careers in General Business

Business gives today’s college graduate a wealth of career opportunities such as:

  • valuing investment opportunities in financial markets on Wall Street
  • performing financial audits in a Big 6 accounting firm
  • managing a project team designing a new method of manufacturing a product
  • pricing and promoting a new product being introduced to the market

K-State’s business graduates find jobs with large corporations and small businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations. They also are involved with banking activities, trading on the commodity and stock exchanges, working in advertising agencies, practicing accounting in public and private firms and working in major manufacturing businesses. Program graduates have been found helping small businesses grow, working in family businesses and even starting their own businesses. They also hire and supervise employees, train new managers, plan budgets, create new products and set up company-wide information systems.

Requirements

To qualify for admission into the general business bachelor’s degree completion program, students must have completed 45 credit hours of general requirements course work with a 2.5 minimum GPA.

The application fee is $30. However, if you have previously attended Kansas State University, you will not have to pay the application fee again. Be sure to select the term in which you plan to take classes.

Transcripts

If you have received credit from other institutions, have each institution send an official transcript to the K-State Office of Admissions and follow up with that office to make sure they have received your transcripts. Transcripts mailed by students are not considered to be official. The Office of Admissions will forward your transfer course material to the animal sciences department, where an evaluation will be made of how your courses apply toward the Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Industry.

Your application will not be processed until all transcripts from the institutions have been received by the Office of Admissions.

Funding

Earn part of the $21 million K-State awards each year in scholarships. They're awarded based on academics, activities, service and financial need.

Students are awarded only one academic or leadership scholarship, where the highest eligible dollar amount is given. Supplemental awards can increase these awards, but the prestigious Presidential Scholarship replaces any other award.
