This Master program intends to provide competencies in research in health sciences. During the first curricular year (60 ECTS) students will approach the basis of several major biomedical scientific areas, acquire laboratory and research skills and competences, and elaborate the thesis project proposal. In the second curricular year (60 ECTS) students will develop competencies of autonomy in conducting experimental work and of interpreting data.

This Master program takes place in the School of Health Sciences and in its associated research institute, the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), a research unit evaluated as Excellent by the international evaluation committee.

& Selected from the international program of advanced courses provided by the Escola de Ciências da Saúde/Instituto de Investigação em Ciências da Vida e Saúde or by other affiliated schools or institutes.

$ Correspond to laboratory training to acquire technical and methodological competences, in laboratories at the Escola de Ciências da Saúde/Instituto de Investigação em Ciências da Vida e Saúde or in other collaborating institutions.

Candidates must fulfill one of the following requirements: * a) Holders of "licenciatura" degree or legally equivalent qualification in the field of Sciences, until July 31st 2014; * b) Holders of a foreign higher education degree in the field of Sciences, conferred following a 1st cycle of studies, organized in accordance with the Bologna principles by a subscribing Country; * c) Holders of a foreign higher education degree which is acknowledged by the Scientific Council of the School of Health Sciences - University of Minho as fulfilling the objectives of the "licenciado" degree; * d) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum acknowledged by the Scientific Council of the School of Health Sciences - University of Minho as ensuring capability to undertake this cycle of study.
