Course Content
You will study the following modules:
English for Academic Purpose and Study Skills, including ICT
- You will look at reading techniques and writing styles as well as developing your note taking and presentation skills. Additionally you will learn how to use dictionaries and other study aids.
Information for Business and Management
- This module covers the processes associated with the transfer of data, and the importance of information analysis in supporting management decision making. You will also learn how to gather and sort basic data sets, and study data-organising software packages from the Microsoft Office suite.
Introduction to Financial Analysis
- In this module you will explore the vital role of financial information in the management process. You will learn about the use of financial information in management, focusing on theory rather than your practical accounting skills.
Introduction to Economic Analysis
- Focusing on mixed market economies, this module explores the major factors that shape the environments in which businesses function. You will look at the forces that at local, national and international level guide and determine the economic behaviour of both producers and consumers.
International Business: Global Context and Management
- This module develops your understanding of business activities that cross national boundaries.
Depending on your intended degree, you will also choose two of the following:
Marketing and Communications
- You will explore the fundamental principles of marketing and the central role the consumer plays within different marketing strategies. This will cover key marketing decision areas and the challenges that marketers face in the 21st century. An emphasis will also be placed on inter-personal and cultural communications within marketing.
Financial and Economic Analysis
- This module explores the central role of accounting and economic information in the financial process. You will learn about how financial and economic analysis is used by financial advisers, investors, insurers and risk managers among others.
Introduction to Financial Services
- This module introduces you to the UK's financial services sector and covers personal finance, corporate finance and investment, banking, and international finance and risk. The module will also examine current issues affecting financial services in the UK and beyond
Conceptualising Cultural Environments
- This module explores the historical and contemporary forces central to the modern 'cultural economy', which comprises the fields of sport, events, tourism and media. You will learn about the factors that have driven the production, consumption and regulation of modern cultural economies and the issues and challenges that face them.
Tracking your progress
Progress is checked by continuous assessment of coursework and class tests. The final grade for each module is based on a mixture of coursework and end-of-course examinations, if appropriate. Successful students will receive grades for each of their modules. Assessment is both formal and informal, and designed to help you improve your abilities in preparation for university success. Marks from the Foundation programme do not count towards your final degree, but do help the University assess your abilities with regards to entering your chosen field of study.
You are assessed by a combination of examination and course work, which may include:

- practical
- exercises
- group and individual research projects
- portfolios
- oral and video presentations
- seminar discussions
- class tests
- problem solving exercises
Through formative assessments you receive feedback on your performance which will enable you to improve before the final summative assessments.
Audience
If you have completed secondary school education in your home country, the International Certificate of Higher Education programme provides academic preparation for first year entry and ensures that you meet the minimum English language requirement for entry to your chosen undergraduate degree programme. In some circumstances you may be able to enrol on the Foundation programme in order to change your specialist subject.
Requirements
Academic requirements:
You need to have completed 12 years of schooling (or the local equivalent to meet the same standard) with very good grades, or show strong evidence of ability to complete the programme successfully and progress to their chosen degree.

Five term programme: IELTS 4.0 or equivalent
Four term programme: IELTS 4.5 or equivalent
Three term programme: IELTS 5.0 with a minimum of 4.5 in writing or equivalent

Age:
17 years and above
All students commencing courses on a published September start date must be 17 years old by 31st December of that calendar year. For all other start dates, students must be 17 years old on the published start date of the course.
