Tuition fees do not include:
- text books and other learning materials: an additional cost in the region of £170 per academic course (three term) ;
- enrolment fee: an additional charge of £150 per academic programme (to be charged upon confirmation) ;
- lab fee: an additional £325 per year to cover the use of laboratory facilities (only applicable to science based courses)

Course Content
Depending on your intended degree, you will choose from these options:
What will I study?
You will study the following modules:
English for Academic Purpose and Study Skills, including ICT
- This module aims to develop your general English and study skills in preparation for postgraduate programmes at the School of Engineering and Built Environment. The class hours focus on a range of academic abilities including planning and writing academic essays, presentations, critical analysis and seminar skills.
Project module
- Your choice of project will reflect your own experience and interests, and allow you to study the topics you choose in more depth. It will also be directly related to the Masters degree you intend to progress to.
Research Methods
- This module is an introduction to the research methods required at postgraduate level. You will focus on the subject area you intend to progress to study at postgraduate level, and gain a more in-depth knowledge using a problem-solving approach.
Specialist Modules
- You will choose your two specialist modules from the School of Engineering and Built Environments portfolio of Bachelors degrees. Your choice will relate directly to your chosen Masters programme.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is both formal and informal, and designed primarily to make you aware of your progress. Marks do not count towards your final master's degree, but do help the university assess whether you are ready to progress to your chosen route of study.
Assessment of your academic aptitude will be based on:
- written assignments
- group work
- project work
- oral presentations and examinations
- dissertation
Assessment of your English language and communication skills will be based on written assignments, oral presentations, interviews and examinations.
Audience
The Graduate Diploma is suitable for international students who need an introduction to the study of a subject in preparation to study it at postgraduate level, or to upgrade qualifications if you have studied a 3 year Diploma in a relevant subject. The Graduate Diploma is also suitable for those that want to increase or update their subject knowledge or those that need to improve their English language study skills within the context of their chosen subject.

Academic requirements:
Applicants should have successfully completed a minimum of 3 years in higher education in a related subject area (or equivalent). This could constitute a:
- 4-year bachelor's degree (in a related area)
- 3-year bachelor's degree (in a related area)
- 2-year higher national diploma (HND) plus 2 years' relevant work experience

English requirements:
Three terms: IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum 5.5 in all subskills) or equivalent.
Four terms with Pre-Sessional English: IELTS 5.0 (with a minimum 5.0 in two subskills) or equivalent.

If you do not meet the minimum English language requirements you should apply for English for University Study.
Age:
17 years and above.
All students commencing courses on a published September start date must be 17 years old by 31st December of that calendar year. For all other start dates, students must be 17 years old on the published start date of the course.
Work Experience
No work experience is required.
