You will cover an array of subjects, including: * Roman social history * Acculturation and romanisation theory * Graeco-Roman religion * The rise of Christianity You will learn to apply methodologies from other disciplines and to engage in current debates in ancient history. A particular mainstay of the specialisation is the study of documentary texts, in particular those of Greek inscriptions. Over the years, the specialisation has attracted students from various disciplines – history, classics, archaeology and several other disciplines, both from within and from outside the Netherlands. Together, they form a lively graduate community. Many students have been successful in their student careers: winning prizes (in recent years twice the Fruin-prijs for the best Leiden History thesis), obtaining grants, and being admitted into high-quality courses and programmes outside Leiden.
