Description
Industrial Design focuses on intelligent products, systems and services. Therefore there are engineers required with the ability to match technology to the real needs and wishes of users.
Industrial Design relates to products and services that enable us to make optimal use of our environment and interact with it. It's based on three important pillars: technology integration, the user perspective and design in the broadest possible sense. All three are constant factors during the entire bachelor program. Teaching ID at TU/e is competency-centered. That means students do not have to take exams for individual courses; instead they have to develop competencies such as technology integration, social and cultural awareness, market orientation and visual language. Competency development is tested each half-year, based on the 'digital portfolio' that you keep. Compared with other engineering courses this is a revolutionary approach. The staff of coaches and professors consists of individuals who work at least part-time in their own companies or design bureaus, or who teach at other institutes such as the Design Academy Eindhoven (NL), the Royal College of Arts, or an engineering course at one of the Dutch Universities of Technology.
