The Master of Science programme in Industrial Management is designed for students with a profound engineering background who aim to take leadership positions in industrial and technology-based organisations.

The main focus of the programme is understanding the creation of value for customers. We address this issue at three different levels: firstly, the industry level, where the focus of attention is the economic and technical transformation in national and global markets. Secondly, the firm level, which focuses on the management of value-creating functions and processes such as research and development, operations and sourcing, and marketing and distribution. Thirdly, the individual level, which focuses on leading people in change.

The programme consists of a number of tailored and programme-exclusive courses that provide detailed understanding in relation to each of the three levels, as well as the interrelation between them. The learning process throughout the programme is enhanced by the integrated design of the compulsory courses – where case assignments, problem-based learning, and interaction with the industry are of central importance.

The programme takes pride in having close contact and frequent interaction with industrial leaders and their organisations. For example, all courses have guest lecturers from the industry. Moreover, interview assignments, study visits, and industrial projects are core activities in the curricula, in order for all students to be prepared to take on leadership positions in industrial and technology-intensive organisations after completing the programme.

The Industrial Management Master’s programme is designed around an integrated core of mandatory courses covering theoretical knowledge and skills related to management of key functions in industrial organizations.

Furthermore, the individual and the industrial level of analysis are also covered in specific courses, providing students with capabilities of handling industrial challenges based on a systems perspective. Through the elective courses students can then specialize in a number of areas based on a broad pallet of courses at the department of Industrial Economics and Management, such as management, control, supply chain, project management, economics, leadership etc.

Degree project and thesis

The objective of the degree project is for students to demonstrate the individual skills acquired during the programme and apply them to solving a realistic problem. The student will then write a thesis report, demonstrate and defend the results.

Requirements

A completed Bachelor's degree, corresponding to a Swedish Bachelor's degree (180 ECTS credits), or equivalent academic qualifications from an internationally recognised university.
Students in their final year of undergraduate education may apply to KTH and, if qualified, receive conditional acceptance. If you have not yet completed your studies, please include a written statement issued by the degree awarding university. This statement must be certified and stamped by the Academic Registrar's Office, the Examinations Office or equivalent of the institution. Statements from other staff members, such as faculty members, will not be accepted.
Students who are following longer technical programmes, and have completed courses equivalent to a Bachelor´s degree (180 ECTS credits), will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Cover sheet (generated from the web-based application). However, if you have a Swedish personal ID number or if you choose to upload your documents, the cover sheet is not required.
Certificates and diplomas from previous education at an internationally recognised university.
Transcripts of records (including course list). All courses taken and grades must be included. Sort them in reverse chronological order, i.e. put the last received document on top.
Proof of English proficiency.
A copy of your passport or some other document of identification. If you are from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland and are required to document your citizenship status in order to be considered exempt from paying application and tuition fees, your passport copy must be certified. If you are not a citizen of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland, certification of your passport copy is not required.
