This programme is for graduates of any discipline who are not trained in IT, and provides students with a wide exposure to fundamental and advanced techniques.

Starting with an introduction to several important areas of IT in the first semester, the second semester concentrates on a number of specific areas of computing practice.

MSc students undertake a project for the remainder of the programme. Depending on the topic, teaching involves a combination of lectures, tutorials, practicals, case studies, role-play, mini-projects and personal reading.

The Department encourages student projects undertaken with industry or commerce.

Full-time MSc programmes are of 12 months duration. Modules are based over two 15 week semesters, and the rest of the 12 months is spent on a University- or industry-based project. The intensive 2-3 week teaching for part-time students may appeal to local students or those in employment who do not wish to stay on campus. Students are recommended to complete the programme in as short a time as possible (up to seven years available for MSc if necessary), to maintain the relevance of previous study.

Music Tuition and Scholarships

The Music Centre offers subsidised music tuition in a range of instruments or for voice selected via open auditions. Those selected receive thirty minutes tuition per week for twenty weeks. The cost of this would be £250, but via the scheme, students only pay a £50 registration fee.

You must register your interest for the tuition at the start of each academic year. The University also offers up to three competitive music scholarships each year selected by an independent panel of distinguished musicians.

These are awards of £500 and the scholars are expected to give a recital in the Spring. For further information contact a.beavis-harrison@lboro.ac.uk or telephone +44 (0)1509 222960
