We all have our human rights to a good and reasonable quality of education irrespective of our different origin, gender, age, culture, locality and socio-economic backgrounds. However, there are still some 70 million out-of-school children and around 780 millions adults deprived of such rights in our world today.

It is within this perspective that this Master Degree Programme is offered. It addresses the rapidly emerging needs and challenges facing globalization and global education from a much broader perspective and focuses on the following research and training areas, namely: Education of Quality for All International and Comparative Perspective, Educational Policy, Educational Planning, Administration and Management, Globalization and Education Reforms, Gender and Education, Education for Sustainable Development and Rural Transformation.

The overall aim of the program is that students acquire or upgrade knowledge and analytical skills in educational policy, planning, management, reform and evaluation in international, global and comparative perspectives including cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural and developmental dimensions. The programme comprises 120 higher education credits (120 ECTS), and its duration is four terms.

This course deals with both international and comparative education, the former including cross-cultural understanding and studies of single case countries, while the latter is more analytical and working with different types of comparative research approaches. The course includes different types of comparative studies ranging from large scale and statistically oriented studies of student achievement to small scale case studies of a few countries and their education systems, for example.

The course combines lecturing, workshops, discussions, and group work. Assessment is based on (a) active participation in the course, discussions, and seminars, (b) presentation and defence of a course paper, and (c) critical examination of at least one other course paper and active participation in the course examination sessions. Course attendance is required for a student to be examined. When absent, students have to contact the Course Leader for additional course assignments.
