The Internet Technologies and Information Systems programme (ITIS) is a research-oriented MSc course. ITIS is jointly offered by the four universities Braunschweig, Clausthal, Göttingen, and Hannover, located in northern Germany, and focuses on research topics within the Internet and Information System domain. In particular, ITIS integrates students into on-going research projects to prepare them for subsequent PhD programmes. The complete curriculum is taught in English. The study programme offers a wide variety of courses ranging from networking technologies over data management and information systems to legal issues and business applications.

Every student in the ITIS programme is required to choose a research focus which best corresponds to the student's interest. This choice serves as a corner-stone for each student's personalised study programme. The research focus drives the decision of which research group students will belong to, the research projects they may undertake and the range of course modules that will be part of their curriculum. Within the research project, students will learn to perform up-to-date research on their own while still benefiting from professional guidance by the research group's members.

The following major research areas are offered:
  • Distributed Systems and Algorithms
  • Networking and Communication
  • Databases and Information Systems
