The ANU Master of Laws Degree is a unique and highly valuable qualification. It enables law and non-law graduates to undertake Masters Level courses focusing on a wide range of legal areas. Students enrolled in the Master of Laws can complete any LAWS 8000-level courses (subject to completing any prerequisite courses).
Students can also choose to enrol in a specialist Master of Laws in Law, Governance and Development; Master of Laws in Environmental Law; Master of Laws in International Security Law; Master of Laws in International Law and; Master of Laws in Migration Law.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, graduates will have the skills and knowledge to:
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding in the areas of law studied
- Analyse case law, legislation and scholarly writings on the specialist areas of law studied
- Synthesise legal materials into a concise and cohesive argument that addresses a legal question
- Incorporate social, comparative or interdisciplinary approaches into legal analysis
- Undertake in-depth legal research using a variety of materials and sources
- Engage in original and critical reflection on the law
- Contribute to debates on theoretical, policy and practical issues in the areas of law studied
The Master of Laws requires completion of 48 units, which must consist of:
48 units from completion of 8000-level courses in the subject area LAWS Law
Completion of a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor degree with a minimum average of at least 50%; or completion of a non-law degree and the Graduate Certificate of Law with a minimum average of at least 50%
