The Master's Programme in Literature is a collaboration between the Departments of Literature, Ancient Greek, English, French, Gender Studies, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Slavic Languages and Spanish.

The programme leads to a degree in the main field of study and aims to deepen and enhance the students academic and linguistic competence, as well as their knowledge in the broad field of literature.

Giving an international and transnational perspective, the programme qualifies students for doctoral studies in the fields listed above, but is also useful for work outside of the university.

This is especially the case in fields where there is a demand for knowledge about the significance of language for communication and social development, and which require international broad-mindedness, historical competence and the ability to deal with complex information in a systematic and critical fashion.

The obligatory programme-specific courses are given in English and/or Swedish and focus on general questions such as the distinctive character of literary interpretation, the concept of literature in different languages and cultures, and narrative form and function.

As a student in the Masters Programme in Literature you will have access to Swedens largest selection of Second-Level courses in the humanities and language studies. These courses have a very strong research basis and represent the leading edge in the different humanistic and linguistic fields of research.

In consultation with your supervisor, you will draw up a plan for your individual studies on the basis of your own interests and needs. The programme also leaves room for practical training.
