Description

Manufacturing Systems Engineering (MS) deals with the planning, design and implementation of technologically complex production systems. The MS program is designed to train and bring forth professionals who can effectively participate in, and become an active member of, such multi-functional teams dealing with the planning, design, and implementation of modern manufacturing systems.

As flexible automation, integration, customization, and miniaturization are the leading trends in the global industrial setting, graduates of MS program can look forward to challenging and gratifying job opportunities in industrial or management consulting companies and services sector, including banks and insurance or software companies. Yet another option for graduates is to take the increasingly attractive path of establishing their own small hi-tech firms.

The Manufacturing Systems (MS) Program is designed to train and bring forth professionals who can effectively participate in, and become an active member of, such multi-functional teams dealing with the planning, design, and implementation of modern manufacturing systems. In developing and integrating systems, an MS engineer faces the challenge of bringing together human, physical, and economic resources as well as knowledge in optimal fashion. Coordination and control are essential management concepts or tools for producing and operating manufacturing systems.

MS curriculum is designed to prepare students as entrepreneurs, problem solvers and change agents in a specific environment. To that end, a solid foundation in mathematics, in the physical, biological and engineering sciences, and in management science and behavioral science is targeted. Group projects where students learn to function as a team constitute an essential part of course-work. Interaction with other disciplines is emphasized: students are strongly encouraged to take courses from other disciplines and participate in multidisciplinary project teams. This will be improving their skills of communicating with other disciplines so as to enable them to function in complex scientific and technical environments throughout their careers. Through a broad range of electives, students shall also be given the opportunity to develop themselves beyond MS boundaries by acquiring a foundation for starting a career in the services sector.

Flexible automation, integration, customization and miniaturization being the leading trends in the global industrial setting, graduates of MS program can look forward to challenging and gratifying job opportunities in industrial or management consulting companies and services sector, including banks and insurance or software companies. Yet another option for them is to take the increasingly attractive path of establishing their own small hi-tech firms.

If MS graduates should decide to go on to graduate study, they will be well prepared to continue either in Manufacturing Systems Engineering as such, or shift to other fields like business, economics and computer science.
