You will discover basic concepts in marine science on this programme, along with an understanding and application of resource management issues.
Graduate students from a variety of science and engineering backgrounds are introduced to basic concepts in marine science which are then augmented by an understanding and application of resource management issues.
The programme is taught by staff from across NOCS who draw on their cutting edge research to create a challenging and stimulating degree programme. You will also be encouraged to attend our research seminars, some delivered by leading visiting scientists.

The structure shown below is for full-time students. Delivery for part-time students is agreed on an individual basis.
Year 1
Modules taken are dependent on your background knowledge. Students with no prior oceanographic knowledge take four introductory modules. Those with a strong 'oceanographic' background take two introductory modules and two optional modules. Students will also be working on a research project through the year.
Semester One
You will take two compulsory modules, which for all students will include CENV6087 Environment audit and risk assessment. In addition to the options listed below, ENVS6019 Contemporary global environment issues can be selected, subject to timetabling contraints.

Semester Two
In Semester 2, all modules are short intensive courses delivered over a three week period. Depending on your background and interests, you will take three modules from those listed.
