Description

Our professionally accredited four-year Marine Engineering MEng Honours degree focuses on the engineering systems that keep a ship running, from the main propulsion engines to the auxiliary machinery including pumps, power, water, air and hydraulics systems.

It includes a fourth year of advanced study, in which you study specialist modules such as:

  • marine power transmission
  • marine machinery systems
  • marine management technology

You also work in a group on a new ship design challenge, which may be set by industry.

You will gain hands-on experience using our diesel engine research laboratories, which house facilities for producing test rigs and prototype equipment in-house.

Quality and ranking

The quality of the marine technology study experience at Newcastle is recognised with an overall student satisfaction score of 100% in the 2013 National Student Survey.
