Description

Mechanical Engineering is a highly integrated discipline, which harnesses the influence of a range of other specialisms such as electronics, in the design and development of today products. The engineering industry needs multidisciplined engineers with the ability to respond to the rapid changes taking place within the mechatronics industry.

This BEng programme provides an excellent opportunity to become a multi-skilled engineer, able to understand and utilise appropriate methods from a range of engineering disliplines.

Why Choose This Programme?

This innovative degree is designed to produce highly skilled Manufacturing System Engineers and provides awareness and understanding of the practical issues involved in the design, specification, maintenance, commissioning and manufacture of mechanical-electronic systems and associated systems. It is a broad-based programme comprising of two foundation years which are common to all of the BEng degree programmes, giving a solid ground in mathematics and a grounding in mechanical, manufacture, electronic and electrical engineering.
Consequently, on completion of Year 2, it is possible to transfer to Year 3 of the Electrical Power Engineering or Electronic Engineering programmes. Since Year 3 is common between both Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Mechanical Electronic Systems Engineering, it is possible to transfer between these programmes at the end of Year 3.
The programme provides a combination of theoretical study with âhands onâ experience. It is designed to align particularly with the requirements of the Engineering Council in providing breadth in the study of engineering disciplines and also business and financial aspects, key to successful operation in industry. You will also study the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM) using industry standard software such as Pro Engineer, ensuring your learning keeps pace with industry.
Throughout your studies, you will enjoy the use of state-ofthe-art IT and specialist engineering laboratories. This degree has been designed to meet the needs of industry and is accredited by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), leading to CEng professional status.
