The Media Culture programme focuses on critical and problem-based analyses of recent developments in the new media as a cultural practice. It is suitable if you have a bachelor's degree in media and cultural studies and wish to be trained in practice-oriented research, or if you are a media professional who wants to deepen your theoretical understanding of your field. New digital technologies have transformed the ways we store, share and distribute information, interact with each other and spend our leisure time. Digital media have a major effect on our engagement with politics and with culture. At the same time, older media such as printed books, radio, television and film are still present and are evolving in complex interrelations with digital media. The interdisciplinary and comparative framework of the master's programme in Media Culture combines theoretical reflection on these developments with research on user practices and (basic) media skills. It will provide the academic training to investigate on-going transformations in media culture and the skills to participate in these innovations. This one-year programme is taught in English.
