MSc Microbiology and Infection
This MSc programme is built on the combined expertise in microbiology and infection that has been assembled through the establishment of the Institute of Microbiology and Infection at Birmingham. It draws on the internationally recognized expertise of members of both the College of Life and Environmental Sciences and College of Medical and Dental Sciences to provide a course that will be attractive to aspiring biomedical scientists and clinical microbiologists worldwide.
Students graduating from this course can look forward to gaining a thorough grounding in this important area, with job opportunities throughout the public and private sector, as well as in research settings.
Pre-Masters
One third of your pre-Masters year will be spent developing your English skills and academic skills; allowing you to approach academic reading and writing with confidence. You will also develop practical, analytical and numeracy skills in your Biosciences modules.
Aimed at highly motivated international learners with an excellent academic record, the pre-Masters year is designed to bridge the gap between your current qualification and the postgraduate programme at Birmingham. You will develop both subject specific knowledge and skills in the area of molecular biology and microbiology.
You will take Biosciences modules including: Skills for Biosciences, Molecular Biology and its Applications, Microbes and Man and an optional module. These modules will ensure that you have the knowledge base that you need to succeed on the MSc Molecular Biotechnology or MSc Microbiology and Infection. Studying alongside undergraduate students will fully prepare for the demands of a UK postgraduate course, as well as allowing you to adjust to UK assessment styles.
