The Master Program Mobility Systems Engineering & Management (MSEM) offers a unique combination of courses in emerging technologies & systems engineering. Processes, methods and tools for the challenges of future mobility in e-drive, autonomous driving, communication-over-the-air, and worldwide release & configuration management are introduced on the engineering as well as on the management side.
As a consequence, the Master's program covers the demands in this vital field and prepares high potential professionals for the challenges of today and the future.
The Master's Program offers a unique combination of courses in emerging technologies, systems engineering knowhow and methods as well as management tools tailored for those challenges of mobility: e-drive, auto-drive, communication-overthe-air, and worldwide release and configuration management. Within the master program specifications in those area can be chosen.
With its long tradition in mobility, electrical, information and communication programs, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) provides an ideal environment. Building on the long-established reputation for excellence in business engineering, our master program combines an in-depth knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts in business, finance and management with the latest developments in Electronic Systems and Mobility Systems Engineering.
On top of that, the program Mobility Systems Engineering & Management shares five management modules with the other Master's programs. This fosters the network cross-branches and provides the participants with general knowledge in finance, accounting, marketing, international multi-project management, international law, and human resource management. With these competences, they can consider the commercial implications of project decisions and develop a holistic view.

Overview Engineering Modules (EM):
EM 1: Processes, Methods & Tools of Systems Engineering
EM 2: Systems Design
EM 3: Systems Integration & Validation

Specialization Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS):
EM 4: Functions of ADAS
EM 5: Components & Technologies of ADAS

Specialization e-Mobility:

EM 4: E-Mobility: Political & Technical Framework
EM 5: E-Mobility: Components & Technology

Crash Course: Electronic Engineering (preparatory module)

Overview Management Modules (MM):
MM 1: Innovation & Projects
MM 2: Finance & Value
MM 3: Marketing & Information
MM 4: Human Resource Management
MM 5: Law & Contracts

Educational organization

The Master's program is offered at the HECTOR School, technology business school of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). It is especially designed for engineering professionals who have already worked in their jobs for approx. three years. It is designed as a part-time program over a duration of about 20 months and concludes with a Master of Science degree awarded by the KIT.
The academic calendar for the program starts every October and consists of 10 intensive modules, each with a duration of 10 days. At the end, the Master's program concludes with a Master's thesis.

Forms of assessment

Written and oral exams at the end of each module, Master's thesis and colloquium after completion of the modules.

Course objectives

Electronic systems are omnipresent. Currently they range from portable devices such as smart phones to large stationary installations like the systems controlling of power plants. Communication - stationary or over-the-air – of these particular systems form a network of control, sensing and influencing the environment. A cyber physical system is the result. These trends fundamentally influence industry (industry 4.0) and mobility, mainly vehicles for automated driving, electrical drive trains and car-2-x communication. As a consequence, sustainable mobility concepts are increasingly using embedded electronic systems to maximize efficiency, enable automation and reduce pollution. The Master's program Mobility Systems Engineering & Management covers the demands in this vital field and prepares high potential professionals for the challenges of today and the future.
