The Division of Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment is a world-leader in engineering teaching and research situated in Technology Park, a world-class location nestled among 80 companies creating the perfect environment for collaboration and innovation.

Mechanical engineers build and design solutions that use mechanised power and machinery and tools.

Engineer solutions to everyday challenges and learn about the latest developments in machinery design, manufacturing technologies, and sustainable energy usage and management. Specialised courses in the final year provide further knowledge of mechanical topics, including mechanical vibration analysis, sustainable development and design practice, and more.

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical) is based at the Mawson Lakes campus. Courses are also available through blended mode and online delivery at the Whyalla campus.

This degree offers some flexibility with the first two years available fully online. The degree is also offered in part-time mode.

The program has a foundational first year that includes an introduction to mechanical, civil and electrical engineering to give a broad engineering knowledge so that graduates have an extensive understanding of basic fundamentals and an appreciation of the diversity of engineering. Courses in second and third years are arranged to give the program a practice based emphasis that provides engineering knowledge in the areas of mechanics and component design; dynamics and kinematics; fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and sustainable design; materials and design for manufacturing; and manufacturing systems and engineering maintenance. The fourth year equips graduates for future leadership roles in the areas of mechanical design, advanced manufacturing, applied mechatronics, with particular emphasis on the manufacturing, defence, mining, mechanical design, automotive, and building and mechanical services industries.

This program is a professional degree with honours. It includes a minimum of one year of advanced studies in research and professional practice. Students who complete this degree graduate with either First Class, Second Class or Third Class Honours, dependent on performance, and there is not a non-Honours option available.
