The Masters in Music & Technology at CIT Cork School of Music will have a very practical, hands-on approach. Our ethos is that this cross-disciplinary programme will foster a combination of technical know-how and confidence with creativity and musicality. A Master of Arts award or Master of Science Award can be chosen depending on the students pathway through the Programme.
The Masters in Music & Technology at CIT Cork School of Music [CSM] offers training and experience to enhance the talents and skills necessary to work in the creative industries of the future. The programme takes full advantage of the CSM's state-of-the-art performance spaces, Recording Suite (Live, Control, and Editing rooms), Electronic Music Studio, dedicated laboratories and many performance opportunities.
A cross-faculty body of experienced lecturers and practitioners in the field delivers the programme. Learners from different disciplines will be able confidently and competently to interact with, and find employment within, several fields of study and industry. Adding this training to the opportunity to work with some of the finest up-and-coming musicians in Ireland, from all walks of life, will result in an exceptional Music Technologist.
The Masters in Music & Technology is a full-time Level 9 course of study worth 90 ECTS credits. The first two semesters (September-January and January-June) each have a 30-credit load, delivered through a combination of 5-credit mandatory and elective modules. Independent work is undertaken over the final June-August period in respect of a 30-credit project. The type of award, MA or MSc, depends on the nature of the project undertaken during this period.
Applications are invited by way of a submitted application form and shortlisted candidates will be interviewed. Normally, an Honours 2.2 Degree in a cognate area is required and work-based experience is an advantage. Recognition is given for relevant prior learning where the applicant does not have a relevant Honours Degree.

There are a number of funding schemes for postgraduate students. The majority of these are external schemes and the competition is open to both the Institutes of Technology and the Universities. The following are details on some of the funding opportunities that arise throughout the year. Where possible, links are given for further information on the schemes.
CIT Postgraduate Research Scholarships
The CIT Postgraduate Scholarship scheme is an internal competition concerned with (a) fostering research across all Departments in the College and (b) rewarding academic excellence by allowing high achieving students the opportunity to pursue higher a degree at the Masters and Doctoral levels, at CIT.
Strand I - Department of Education and Science
The Post-Graduate R&D Skills Training Programme is concerned with the provision of research and development training for highly skilled graduates leading to the award of a Masters degree. The provision of high quality R&D training is the primary objective. The scheme covers all disciplines and a member of staff makes the application. Once a project is funded the supervisor must advertise and conduct interviews to fill the position.
Under this scheme fees, materials and travel is covered and the student is paid a monthly stipend for the duration of the project.
O'Reilly Foundation
The O'Reilly Foundation sponsors scholars to undertake post-graduate education in their chosen field and in an institution or university of their choice. O'Reilly Scholars are individuals who have an excellent academic record and have demonstrated leadership qualities, as well as the potential and desire to make a significant contribution to the future of Ireland. Fulbright Commission Awards
The Irish - US Fulbright Commission's annual Awards Programme enables students and scholars to undertake study, research or lecturing at a college in the United States. Applicants must be in a position to outline a clearly defined course of study or research and must obtain their own placements in the US. All Fulbright awards are for one year. However, students pursuing post-graduate degrees will normally retain their Fulbright visa status in the US for the full duration of their studies. For further information please see:

Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS)

The Embark Initiative operated by the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology. Funded by the State under the National Development Plan, the Embark Initiative is aimed at knowledge creation for the long-term benefit of society and the economy. Embark takes a unique approach to funding people and ideas, providing direct financial support for researchers & research students. Its programmes does not target research projects with an industrial or economic focus but instead aim to support researchers in exploring ideas and bringing vision to reality. RIAs Mobility Grants Scheme 2012-2013
Applications are now invited under the RIAs Mobility Grants Scheme 2012-2013
In 2013 some 45,000 will be awarded through the Academys postdoctoral Mobility Grants Scheme, which is open to all early career stage researchers in any discipline, who wish to undertake short research trips to anywhere in the world.
