To be accepted into the masters programme in Nanobioscience, you need to complete a relevant bachelor degree.
Nanobioscience is a scientific discipline where techniques on a nano-scale are used to understand and utilise the construction of nature and the molecular principles and structures which are the cornerstones of all biology. The purpose of Nanobioscience is for instance to use biological molecules for constructing functional nano-materials with a long list of groundbreaking uses.

Research

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy at University of Southern Denmark focus their research on:

* Materials and Environment
* Modelling and Complex Systems
* Medicinal chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology
* Living technology and Biophysics
* Theoretical Physics

Here, research is cutting-edge and you get to be present where research is developed.

Career opportunities
The masters programme in Nanobioscience at University of Southern Denmark provides you with a great insight and qualifications within the fields of nano-science, physics, chemistry, biomedicine and biochemistry and molecular biology.
Nano-science revolutionises the fields of biomedicine, medical technology, chemistry, biotechnology and engineering, and there are a multitude of possible uses. Nano-science is expected to contribute to the development of future pharmaceuticals, solutions to fighting bacteria, nano-materials with new functional properties, nano-computer solutions and food stuffs.
Therefore, it is predicted that we will see a rise in the demand for masters and researchers who have precisely the competence that the Nanobioscience programme provides.
The programme creates opportunities of employment in biotechnology, nano-technology and the medical industry. Within Nanobioscience, you will usually get a position in research and development in either Danish or international companies.
The masters programme in Nanobiocscience does not grant teaching credentials on a high school level.

The masters programme in Nanobioscience is a broad education on the border between Chemistry, Physics, Biotechnology and Nano-science. The programme has a solid scientific basis and gives you a broad range of employment opportunities in fields such as research, industrial development or universities in Denmark or abroad.

In the masters programme in Nano-bioscience, you have courses in:

* Nano-chemistry
* Spectroscopy
* Thermodynamics
* Molecule modelling

You also complete an interdisciplinary module within Nanobioscience. Here you encounter the newest experimental techniques and subjects in nano-bioscience and nano-technology. Furthermore, you can narrow the focus of your degree through a variety of elective courses. You finish by writing a thesis in Nanobioscience where you will usually be assigned to a research group either in the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy or Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, but it is of course possible to collaborate with external partners, ie. in business or industry.

Research in the Department of Physics and Chemistry
The department values the fundamental scientific research in a road range of subjects from Physics and Chemistry to related disciplines like Biophysics and Nano-bioscience. Theory, computer calculations and experiments are brought into play to create new results and techniques to benefit both science and technique.

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy has four core research fields:

* Materials and Environment
* Modelling and Complex Systems
* Medicinal chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology
* Living technology and Biophysics
* Theoretical Physics

The department is among the best in the world in research of modified DNA as well as research in the physcis of biomembranes which help us deliver medicine aimed at infected cells in the body. The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy also hold several of Europes key assets in work with chemical and physical methods of emulating fundamental processes of life.

PhD programme
The masters programme in Nanobioscience can be expanded through a research degree and a PhD programme. The 3-year PhD revolves around a research project, but you will also be taking advanced courses and teach younger students.

Nanobioscience with a research profile
In the masters programme in Nanobioscience with a research profile, you get the opportunity to immerse yourself in current issues and complete your own research projects. The programme will provide you with a good basis for handling complex problems which are relevant in many different careers.
Graduates who have completed this master programme are entitled to use the title of Master of Science (MSc) in Nanobioscience.

A complete study environment
As a student at University of Southern Denmark, you become part of a study environment we call Living Science. Your day will be characterised by great academic value and you can look forward to meeting your fellow students as well as researchers from a wide variety of fields. But a university programme is much more than courses, classes and lectures. Good friends, a solid network and a vibrant study environment are all part of creating a connection between the academic and social spheres.
