Duke faculty, students, and graduates are shaping the future of professional nursing practice. Duke University School of Nursing provides advanced and comprehensive education to prepare students for a lifetime of learning and for careers as leaders, practitioners, or researchers. Both faculty and students conduct research that adds to our understanding of health promotion and illness prevention, human responses to illness, and systems of care that facilitate better patient outcomes.

Each APRN major requires the student to complete 11 credit hours of clinical core courses. As a final synthesis experience, students are required to complete a final clinical residency under the mentorship of an experienced clinician in their respective area of expertise. The minimum number of credit hours required for completion of the MSN degree varies by major, ranging from 42 to 49 credit hours.
