Currently, not only within the European region, but even globally there is a strong demand for specialists in information technology, which - with respect to the current trends - will continue. It is quite obvious that the current range of computer science programs in the Czech Republic can meet this demand only partially. Informatics is mainly taught as a newly formed branch in the already existing programs, which poses significant limitations on efficiency, quality and general applicability of education.

The aim of Open Informatics is to provide applicants with a new, individually configurable program that offers computer science education unrestricted by links to already existing programs and based on the state-of-the-art knowledge not only in the field of science but also education. The program follows the tradition of Faculty of Electrical Engineering, CTU of putting proportionally higher emphasis on mathematics than it is required by standards. This is in line with the ambition of the program to reach students whose aim is to obtain the best education with deep theoretical background, encouraging their creative approach to solving problems. The program also puts emphasis on interdisciplinarity of acquired knowledge and the ability to solve problems cooperatively.

Program Objectives
* Standardization of Knowledge. Open Informatics provides education in computer science compatible with world-wide recognized and proven curriculum Standards IEEE / ACM, and satisfies the content standard tests GRE / CS.
* High flexibility of transfer between bachelor's and master's programs. The core program is designed to give bachelors of all disciplines the opportunity to easily continue by joining a computer science master's program anywhere in the world. The masters program may be joined by the bachelors of a wide range of fields including non-informatics ones.
* High level of flexibility. Courses cover a universal, long-term knowledge that will remain largely applicable for decades. The essential and required knowledge in the field is covered by a limited number of mandatory courses. The program then gives the student the opportunity to customize around 25% of the curriculum.
* Supporting interdisciplinarity and secondary specializations. High flexibility in the program has many advantages. It allows students to take advantage of synergies within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering by selecting a custom combination of available courses. This way interdisciplinary minor specializations can naturally arise.
* Education of both practically and theoretically oriented bachelors. A small group of mandatory courses also addresses the problem of how to provide education for both practically oriented students of the bachelors degree, as well as students requiring a deep theoretical preparation for the master's degree. The structure of their study program differs in the choice of optional courses, either the practical ones in the first case, or the theoretical ones in second case.
* Links to the industry and research. Fields of study are deliberately designed so that students of the masters program become involved in research work of elite centers and laboratories achieving excellent results in the international community, or to collaborate on projects with participation of industrial partners.

Education
Courses of Open Informatics are taught by experts in the areas of theoretical and applied computer science. The education is led by teachers and researchers with extensive knowledge and reputation in the field and with motivation to participate in the learning process with selected students. While the bachelors program focuses primarily on providing basic knowledge of computer science, students of the masters program are given the opportunity to cooperate with elite research centers, which operate at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, CTU. Students of the bachelors program of Informatics and computer science are encouraged to participate in research even during their bachelors studies.

Besides the traditional ways, the interconnection of research with education and collaboration with industry also involves participation of professionals with extensive practical knowledge who contribute to corporate projects. This way, students have the apportunity to learn about modern methods and approaches in the field and familiarize themselves with the latest professional hardware and software. Thanks to this, they can extend their career portfolio and increase their chances of finding a desired job after graduation.

The ability to speak and study in English is the key prerequisite for students and experts in computer science. Practical knowledge of a foreign language enables students to take advantage of study visits abroad, where they can encounter different approaches to problem solving and a different work-style and have the opportunity to establish professional contacts.

Master program specializations
* Artificial IntelligenceThe graduates of Artificial Intelligence are able to design and apply intelligent systems in areas such as automatic planning and scheduling, data analysis, formalization of expert knowledge and their use for automated reasoning. The graduates are able to assess the computational complexity of algorithms needed to guarantee the effectiveness of the proposed systems based on soft-computational (especially bio-inspired), distributed (especially multi-agent) and other AI strategies. These capabilities can be used in computer science practice and research at the post doctoral studies as well.


* Computer Vision and Image ProcessingThis specialization provides knowledge of modern methods of automatic processing and analysis of digital images and video, and methods for image understanding and machine perception. Graduates will find their application in the areas of research and development in commercial and non-commercial sectors.

Applicants must submit the following documents: * application form for admission to the master study program * The original of their transcript of studies (list of study grades) or a notarized copy of it; students finishing their bachelor program in summer 2014 may submit a copy of a transcript for the courses taken up to and including the most recent examination period * A notarized copy of the bachelor/master diploma (graduates only) * proof of payment of the admission procedures fee (CZK 500).All documents are to be delivered to the Study office of the FEEnot later than the end of April 2014, for enrolment in September 2014. * Recognition of the previous level of education achieved by the foreigner in another country than the Czech Republic is subject to the Higher Education Act. The applicant therefore must also submit a confirmation of the equivalence of education achieved abroad. This confirmation must be delivered before enrolment. The authorities competent to make decisions on recognition of bachelor/master diplomas are Czech universities; at CTU -Department of Education and Student Affairs of the Rector's Office, Mrs. Huríková, phone: 22435 3359, e-mail: eva.hurikova@vc.cvut.cz. * The entrance admission procedure differs according to the program of study. * The tuition fee in master programs is 55 000 CZK per one semester, and must be paid before enrolment.
