The taught masters degree programme covers 4 broad areas, namely:
* clinical teaching,
* instruction in research methodology and epidemiology;
* instruction in management and related topics;
* preparation of a substantial piece of individual research.
The clinical instruction in Paediatrics is delivered primarily at the National Children's Hospital but also at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children (Crumlin), the Children's University Hospital (Temple Street), the Coombe Women's Hospital and the main campus at TCD.
This course provides higher clinical training in Paediatrics with a focus on clinical examination. It also equips participants with management skills and research opportunities. The course is ideally suited to those wishing to pursue a specialist career in paediatrics and to those doctors in related specialities who have significant paediatric involvement. It is a full-time taught programme with a modular format, and is assessed by two three-hour written papers, clinical assessment and dissertation.

Supported Individual Research: A number of educational approaches are used which include bedside teaching, small interactive lectures, round table discussions led by a series of clinical experts, clinical problem approaches to particular topics and clinical case discussion. Educational facilities employed include the use of video material, interactive educational software and a variety of stimulatory models from the Clinical Skills Laboratory.
Student progress is assessed by:A written examination consisting of 2 written papers with essay and short note type questions, a Clinical examination comprised of one long case ,one short case and a viva voce and finally they must submit a dissertation.
