Description

In a cooperative program with the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) the pre-engineering student undertakes a three-year curriculum in liberal studies and natural sciences (physics, mathematics, chemistry, computer science, geology) at SRU.

Upon satisfactory completion of the first three years and recommendation, the students will enter PSU and complete the engineering major course requirements, as specified. Successful completion of these programs will lead to an appropriate baccalaureate degree from each institution.

A student who meet the stipulated criteria and is recommended for transfer by SRU’s Department of Physics will be able to enter one of the following areas of study:

Requirements

Admission Policies & Procedures of the dual-degree Program with Penn-State

  • Application for admission to the program will be made to Slippery Rock University, where the candidate will be subject to the admission requirements of that institution.
  • A student will indicate the desire to follow the dual-degree program either at the time of the student’s admission to Slippery Rock University, or early enough in the student’s program to permit the student to complete all required prerequisite courses. Results from aptitude and achievement tests, records of scholastic achievement, and other pertinent information will be exchanged between institutions to aid both in guiding and in counseling students and prospective students. The Pennsylvania State University will provide Slippery Rock University with copies of the University Bulletin, Adviser’s Manuals, and curriculum planning guides used by advisers at Penn State for each major.
  • Transfer students to SRU are not eligible to enroll in the dual-degree program.
  • Students are advised by Slippery Rock University that some government-provided financial aid may not be available for a fifth year of study because engineering is considered, by financial-aid regulations, to be a four-year program.
