This programme develops skills in advanced research methods and data analysis in psychology, and is suitable for students from a variety of backgrounds.

Students acquire a wide range of practical research skills. They gain knowledge of the nature and limitations of the scientific method and the main alternatives. In addition they develop knowledge of a range of general historical, theoretical, and philosophical issues underlying the discipline of psychology.

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits.

The programme consists of seven core modules (120 credits), and a research dissertation (60 credits).

Dissertation/report

All students undertake an independent research project which culminates in a dissertation of 10,000–12,000 words.

Teaching and learning

The programme is delivered through a combination of seminars and small-group lectures and practicals. Assessment is through reports of empirical projects carried out individually and in groups, essays, examination, a computing project, a literature review, web page and PowerPoint presentation. The main group project is assessed through a 6,000–10,000 word report.

Normally a minimum of an upper second-class Bachelor’s degree from a UK university of an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard.
