Public Policy

Comprised of a core curriculum, distribution requirements, area of focus, and electives, a two-year MPP is a professional degree program designed for students who wish to gain a thorough training in public policy skills and issues.

The Chicago Harris School of Public Policy admits applicants once a year for the following Autumn Quarter. Applications received after the deadline cannot be considered.

CAMPUS VISITS

Interviews are not required, but you are welcome to visit campus, sit in on classes, and meet with current students. You may contact faculty with questions, but there is no expectation that you do so.

DEGREE OBJECTIVE

Students can apply for a PhD, a Master of Arts in Public Policy, or a Master of Public Policy.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

To complete the MPP requirements, students in the two-year program must:

Successfully complete 18 courses (six quarters of residency) with quality grades

Take a minimum of 12 courses in the Harris School

Earn at least a C- in all core courses and distributional requirements

Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.7 at the time of graduation

At Chicago Harris, they know that the cost for your degree will be significant; we are committed to helping identify financial resources to assist with managing the cost. Financial aid is calculated based on a standardized cost of attendance: tuition, room and board, books, transportation, and personal/miscellaneous expenses for three academic quarters (nine months). The Office of Admissions notifies you of any merit scholarship award at the time of your admission. At that time, we also provide you with information on applying for loans and work.

Financial Aid for Master's Students

Each year, approximately 30-40 percent of Chicago Harris students receive some kind of financial aid. The School assists many students with both scholarships and fellowships that are awarded on a competitive, merit basis.
