The International Track is a globally oriented study programme for domestic and international students. Its specifically tailored academic programme prepares students for an international career in academia, public institutions, non-governmental organisations and private companies in Germany, Europe or anywhere else in the world.

At the heart of the International Track is a wide variety of courses taught in English. These courses can be combined with courses taught in other languages and can be arranged so that students can study abroad for one or two semesters. Any students of Bielefeld University and interested international students are welcome to join the full programme of the International Track or individual courses. Students joining the full programme need a minimum of 75 ECTS credits from international courses. A certificate is issued upon graduation.

The International Track focuses on two profiles which consist of a variety of courses in English to allow students to meet all the requirements for the MA Sociology within four semesters. The profiles are Social Structure Analysis and Social Inequality and Sociology of the Global World. In addition, students are free to choose form a wide variety of courses offered by the Faculty of Sociology, some of which are also taught in English.

The programme of the MA Sociology International Track consists of four elements:

* An introductory module,
* Five further modules,
* An empirical student research project and
* The masters thesis and a colloquium.

The International Track focuses on two elective profiles which offer a variety of courses in English to allow students to meet all the requirements for the MA Sociology within four semesters:

* Social Structure Analysis and Social Inequality and
* Sociology of the Global World.

Students can choose between the following elective courses offered in the MA Sociology:

* Social Structure Analysis and Social Inequality (regular)
* Sociology of the Global World (regular)
* Sociology Theory (irregular)
* Sociological Methods (irregular)
* Sociology of Work and Economics (irregular)
* Political Sociology (irregular)
* Organizational Sociology (irregular)
* Sociology of Gender (irregular)
* Sociology of Science and Technology (irregular)
* Media Sociology (irregular)

Irregular courses, unlike regular courses, are not offered every single year.

Audience

The course programme of the MA Sociology International Track at Bielefeld University is aimed at three groups:

* Domestic and international students who wish to join an international sociology programme taught in English;
* Domestic and international students who are interested in integrating individual courses in English into their curriculum of the MA Sociology without joining the full International Track programme, and
* Erasmus students and other short-term international students coming to Bielefeld.

Students must have an undergraduate degree in Sociology or a related discipline with at least 3 years of higher education (usually a Bachelors degree). Students from other academic backgrounds may also apply for admission and will be accepted if they provide good reasons why they would like to join.Applicants Transcripts of Records (or similar documents) must indicate that their course of studies covers at least three of the following four subjects: Theory of Sociology, Methods of Empirical Social Research, Special Sociology and General Social Sciences.Qualifications can only be reviewed if all the required documents are submitted within the application period. Students of the MA Sociology do not necessarily need a German language certificate, but must be able to furnish proof that their English language proficiency meets the International Tracks minimum entry requirements, such as a TOEFL (iBT) with a minimum of 87 points, telc English with a minimum grade of B2, IELTS with an overall band score of 6.5 or an equivalent English language test.
