Description
This course is ideal for applicants whose interests lie in sport science support, sport psychology, performance management, sports coaching, sporting participation, and teaching. The structure of the course was developed following discussion with specific organisations including UK Sport, BASES, Sport England, Sports Coach UK, the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity and National Governing Bodies.
Industry links
Links have been developed with a number of key partners (e.g. the Club Managers Association of Europe, the RFU, Dorset FA), and there are increasing numbers of guest lectures (e.g. FIFA). Other links exist with England Athletics, Wessex Volleyball, Southampton FC, and AFC Bournemouth.
We have developed international links with visiting academics (University of Florida), guest lectures (Heidelberg, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen), and collaborative research activity (such as those with University of Western Sydney, Murray State University, USA, The Tourism Institute, Macau, University College, Florida, Victoria University, and the University of South Australia).
Industry experience and employability
The number of graduates entering the sporting industry is increasing. More and more potential employers are looking towards industry expertise and experience to complement academic qualifications. This course is specifically designed to address this issue with the third year of the course being spent on a placement in the sporting industry. This placement will give you the opportunity to gain the industrial experience and relevant sporting skills that employers are seeking from today's graduates.
As well as the Placement, you will also experience work-based learning in your first and second year - during this time you develop your skills in coaching and performance. Our students, therefore, graduate with an academic degree, a range of specific professional experiences and the key personal skills required to excel in employment.
Our Current third year students are on placement at Southampton FC, Sussex Country Cricket Club, New York Red Bulls, Watford FC and Warwickshire County Cricket Club.
