Purpose of the M.Ed. in Teaching Additional Languages

The program is designed for students who want advanced professional preparation and study in teaching foreign or additional languages to children, adolescents, or adults in the U.S. or abroad. A wide range of program offerings and electives accommodates student needs and interests.

The program consists of 36 credit hours or 12 courses in teaching methods, second language acquisition, English language study, literacy, cultural awareness, and research methods.

M.Ed. in TESOL: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
Purpose of the M.Ed.

The program is designed for students seeking advanced professional preparation and study in teaching English as a second or additional language to children, adolescents, or adults in the U.S. or abroad. A wide range of program offerings and electives accommodates student needs and interests.

The program consists of 36 credit hours or 12 courses in the following areas: teaching methods, second language acquisition, English language study, literacy, cultural awareness, and research methods.

The degree includes 30 hours of required courses and two electives. Develop your expertise through topics such as:

  2. Test scores (depending on your program)
  3. Unofficial transcripts (native language and English for international applicants)
  4. Three letters of recommendation
  5. Curriculum vita (CV) or resume
  6. Statement of purpose (short essay)
  7. Official transcripts
  8. Certification of finances forms (international applicants)
  9. Minimum TOEFL score requirement: overall score of 80 with at least 20 on speaking and writing
  10. Minimum IELTS score requirement: overall band-width of 6.5, with no single band (score) below 6.0.
