This course is designed for medical, allied health, wellbeing, and education professionals who work in community based services together with children, adolescents and families that experienced developmental, emotional, injury or events which result in or include a mental health issue or concern. The function of play in lives of children will likely be explored using an introduction into the theories, models, and techniques of therapeutic play. You will acquire information regarding children's development of play skills and dealing and consider the use of the professional in providing age-appropriate play-based experiences to children and young individuals. This includes the study of many areas of child development (cognitive, linguistic, societal, psychological, biological, motor and ethical advancement ) from infancy into adolescence. There will also be an investigation of childhood developmental neuroscience and psychopathology, covering a variety of mental health problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), autism spectrum disorders, eating disorders, child abuse and bereavement.
The Master course H705 Master of Child Play Therapy leads to professional Understanding. This Postgraduate Diploma is a skills enhancement tool which encourages practitioners to engage brand new learning and enhance their present skills.
Entry will be based on performance in Bachelor Degree or higher or two years relevant work experience or evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent.
