  • Completion of a graduate degree (minimum Master's-degree) from a regionally accredited college or university prior to matriculation into the program or entry-level professional doctorate (MD, PA, DPT, OTD, MSN, DNP) in biomedical science or a health related field.
  • Provide evidence of health-related practice, leadership, or research.
  • Successful completion (B or better) of 3 credits each of graduate-level epidemiology and biostatistics. The biostatistics course must include multiple regression and logistic (logit) regression.
    • Applicants who have not completed these two courses may be able to do so online through GW once admitted to the PhD program but prior to full matriculation. Early application submission is strongly encouraged. Please contact the program coordinator for details.

  • Comprehensive Essay. Please include a personal statement describing your reasons for undertaking study at The George Washington University and how you anticipate your completion of the PhD will further your career goals. Also include a potential dissertation topic and any substantial accomplishments not already mentioned on the application form. This personal statement should be concise and precise, and should not exceed 1000 words.
  • TOEFL: 250 computer-based or 100 Internet-based
  • PTE: overall score of 68
  • IELTS: an overall band score of 7.0, with no individual band score below 6.0
  • All potential doctoral students will be interviewed by the program director and potential advisor. Interviews will discuss the potential dissertation topic and determine the applicants fit within faculty research. Interviews are granted on an invitation-only basis.
