Visual Cultural Studies

VCS offers a two-year full-time Master's program in Visual Cultural Studies. The students at the Master's program follow obligatory courses, and conduct an individual research project, consisting of fieldwork, writing a Master thesis and making an ethnographic film. It??s intended that the audio-visual material elucidates both the researcher??s and the informant??s perceptions of a given social situation.

Film also creates a particular kind of knowledge that can often supplement textual representations. The exam films produced at VCS are well known for their quality. Every year several films are selected for international documentary film festivals. The originality of the program has led to a special educational prize from The University of TromsØ? and and a further award for educational quality from the Ministry of Education.

Bachelor degree in social science. Applicants must enclose an essay of 1 page stating the purpose of and interest in taking this Master??s degree. All applicants are asked to write in English.
