The broad network contacts that you encounter during the studies will be a valuable resource for future job prospects. The job market is strongly international since methods and issues are similar in different parts of the world. Rapid development in the field of wind power project management entail that the demand for competence is increasing internationally.

You will be prepared for global management positions across the wide spectrum of wind energy industry operating and investment interests, i.e.,wind farm operating companies, consulting firms, local and national governments, component manufacturing and supply chain companies, research institutions or others working with renewable energy and/or environmental balance issues.

Graduates with prior wind power or other industry employment experience may reenter the work force with advanced management skills qualifying for critical project management. Graduates with this program as their initial employment entry degree have demonstrable knowledge relevant to wind farm project development and management as well as community relations. This is a powerful combination and the demand for that type of expertise will increase within a ten-year period. The professional career may be in scientific or technical research and development, as scientific and/or technical advisor, consultant or project leader.

The programme can also prepare you for PhD studies.

Degree

The programme leads to a Master of Science (60 credits) with Energy Technology with focus on Wind Power as the main field of study.

The programme is organised in a sequential path of thematic instruction in planning, project development and management of wind farm projects. Different aspects of these subjects are introduced at the beginning of the programme in an introduction course. Thereafter, courses in wind power technology where industry-relevant subjects such as wind resource assessment and measurement, energy estimations, wind turbine technology, operation and maintenance of wind farms and wind power systems in electricity markets are studied, keeping in mind the aspects of wind power project development and management.

A course is also given in the autumn semester to introduce you to scientific methods and applied research that will prepare you for the thesis work.

The programme continues in the spring term with courses focusing on project management and subjects such as planning and development, economics, community relations, the impact of environmental regulations and acceptance, and the optimization of wind farms. Knowledge acquired during the autumn term is to be applied in these courses.

Critical thinking and writing skills are equal elements of professional competence and important parts of the curriculum. These topics are applied in a thesis course (15 credits) in the end of the spring term where work on an independently researched student thesis is carried out.
