One year full-time

This pathway is aimed at graduates who wish to develop careers in the wireless telecommunications sector, especially those concerned with the radio aspects. The programme covers topics ranging across all layers in the wireless and mobile networking fields, but with particular emphasis on the physical layer of wireless cellular telephony, ad- hoc networks and wireless LANs. You will also study antenna design for mobile networks and electromagnetics aspects.

At the end of the programme you will be equipped with the skills needed for a wide range of jobs in the expanding telecommunications industry, with particular emphasis on those that are relevant to the needs of wireless equipment manufacturers and operators

* CAD Techniques for RF Electromagnetics.

Semester 2

* Satellite Communications
* Wireless Networks
* Antennas for Mobile Applications

Assessment

All modules are examined through a combination of coursework and written examinations taken in May/June. To obtain an MSc, students must gain passes in six of the eight modules taken with an overall average of 50 per cent. In addition to the above, the MSc requires that a satisfactory individual project be completed. MSc students who do not pass the written examinations are only allowed to attempt the project after passing resit examinations the following May.

You should have a first or upper-second class degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline. Applicants with unrelated degrees will be considered if there is evidence of significant industrial experience. Applicants with lower-second class degrees may be considered if the undergraduate degree specialised in relevant subjects. Applicants should have a first degree that included Electromagnetics and be familiar with such topics as Maxwells Equations and basic antenna theory. English Language Requirements CAE score: (read more) Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) is part of the Cambridge English suite and is targeted at a high level (IETLS 6.5-8.0).
