Program goal

Popular positions in the field of maritime law include marine lawyer, marine consultant and freight forwarder. Marine lawyers represent clients in disputes and negotiate contracts. Marine consultants provide legal and business advice to shipping companies. Transport agents organize the transportation of goods and passengers by sea.

As is the case with all Master of Laws (LLM) specializations at City University of London, you can take either five modules and a shorter dissertation (10,000 words), or four modules and a longer dissertation (20,000 words). All modules have the same duration and are taught per semester (September – December or January – April), and not for the entire academic year.

If you take four modules, you will take two per semester in each semester, and if you take five modules, you will have three in one semester and two in the other. Dissertations are written during the summer semester when there are no classes. To get this specialization, you must select at least two modules from this specialization.
