Environmental Campus Birkenfeld (ECB) is one of the three sites of Trier University of Applied Sciences, which is more than 30 years old and cooperates with more than 140 institutions world-wide. ECB is characterised by academic excellence since its founding in 1996.

ECB is a very young and modern equipped university following a residential campus concept with academic departments, libraries, residences, as well as social and sport facilities in short walking distance.

Currently more than 2500 students and employees work together to create solutions for present and future challenges in twelve Bachelor's, four Joint Bachelor's and twelve Master's degree programmes as well as fourteen research institutes and competence centres.

  • Faculty of Environmental Planning and Technology

At the faculty of Environmental Planning and Technology committed professors teach eight accredited Bachelor's degree programmes and six accredited Master's degree programmes in the areas: mechanical engineering, process engineering, industrial engineering and computer science. Course content in all of our degree programmes is linked to environmental issues and sustainability.

  • Environmental Business and Economics/Environmental Law

In the 19th century, the University of Applied Sciences of Trier used to have two institutions in the middle of Trier, at the Paulusplatz and the Irminienfreihof, the School of Trade and the School of Arts. As early as 1830, the School of trade was dedicated to the education of architects and construction engineers. Our current departmental structure Design is based on the former School of Arts.

In 1971, when the University of Applied Sciences of Rhineland-Palatinate was founded, those two schools were integrated into the new University of Applied Sciences of Rhineland-Palatinate as the department Trier. As a result of fast growing student numbers, the downtown locations were no longer sufficient. At the start of winter semester 1978/80, the university moved to the campus at the Schneidershof above the roofs of Trier. Since 1996 the University of Applied Sciences of Trier has been an independent university and has been growing to a  school with three locations in Trier, Birkenfeld and Idar-Oberstein focusing on the future.

For its 30th anniversary in 2001, the “old” down-town Trier locations were revived – the fashion designers moved to the renovated premises at the Irminenfreihof. Additionally, following extensive renovations, the Communication Design and Interior Architecture are once again located at the Paulusplatz.

It is always possible to start studying at the fall semester and partly at the spring semester.

Master degree programs require a first qualified university degree (e.g. Bachelor, Diplom).  Information about the additional requirements can be found in the respective examination regulations.  It is also possible to start a Master degree course in the spring semester.

Applying with a foreign educational achievement

Applicants with certificates/degrees of non-German schools or universities must submit their application for review of their university entrance qualification to the service facility “uni-assist” in Berlin.  A direct application to Hochschule Trier via the online portal is not possible.
