The SRH University of Applied Sciences Heidelberg is a state-recognized private university in Heidelberg.
The university opened on October 1, 1969 as a "facility for the professional rehabilitation of people with disabilities in the tertiary education sector". In 1991, it was opened to private customers. Since then, the proportion of students with disabilities has dropped to around 5%. In 2004 it was accredited by the Science Council. SRH University uses "Competence Oriented Research and Education" (The CORE principle) study model.

- May 2020 Prof. Dr. Carsten Diener is named new president of SRH University Heidelberg.
- October 2017 New programs: Big Data and Business Analytics (M.Sc.) and MBA Sales Management
- April 2017 Prof. Dr. Katja Rade is named new president of SRH University Heidelberg. New program: Therapeutic Sciences (M.Sc.)
- March 2017 The SRH University Heidelberg is one of three Universities of Applied Sciences nominated for Stifterverband's Genius Loci Award for Excellence in Teaching.
- 2016 Institute of Applied Research is established. School of Information, Media and Design is renamed.
- October 2015 The first graduates to study exclusively under the CORE principle leave the University. New program: Cross Media Design (B.A.)
- October 2014 New programs: Occupational Therapy (B.Sc.) and Physiotherapy (B.Sc.)
- February 2014 Opening of physiotherapy and music therapy outpatient clinic on the SRH Campus
- October 2012 The number of students exceeds the 3,000 mark. All new students start with the same two-week introductory module and then study under the CORE principle, the new study model of SRH University Heidelberg.
- January 2011 The sixth faculty, the School of Applied Psychology, is founded.
- October 2010 SRH University exceeds the mark of 2,000 students.
- October 2010 1st International Week with 20 international lecturers, 80 international and around 100 German students.
- July 2009 Re-accreditation by the German Council of Science and Humanities.
- December 2008 Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jörg M. Winterberg succeeds Prof. Dr. Wolfram Hahn as President of SRH University Heidelberg.
- July 2007 Heidelberg University of Applied Sciences changes its name to SRH University Heidelberg.
- October 2005 The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is the first school of the university to offer Bachelor programs in Social Work, Business Law and Business Psychology and to discontinue diploma study programs.
- October 2004 Inauguration of the new University building in Ludwig Guttmann Street in Heidelberg-Wieblingen: the so-called “Science-Tower”
- July 2004 First private university of applied sciences to be accredited by the German Council of Science and Humanities.

- 1975 The professors at all Schools of the University of Applied Sciences Heidelberg receive their accreditation from the Ministry of Education.
- 1969 The predecessor to SRH University Heidelberg begins operations as an “undertaking for the vocational rehabilitation of disabled people” on 1 October.
- 1964 Start of construction of the first center in Heidelberg-Wieblingen.
- 1960 Foundation of the Berufsförderungswerk Heidelberg Foundation, with its first center in Heidelberg-Pfaffengrund, which emerged from a church association, the Stoeckerwerk Association.
Accreditation
Along with the conversion to bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in accordance with the Bologna process in 2003, an accreditation proccess for higher education was also introduced. The process serves as an external quality assurance of the contents of the respective program and is carried out at regular intervals. The specific agency performing the accreditation depends on the field of study.
All programs at SRH University Heidelberg are certified by the following bodies, in accordance with the legal requirements of the State Higher Education Act:
- ZEvA - Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency Hannover
- ACQUIN – Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute (Midmarket Management)
- AHPGS – Accreditation Agency for Programs in Special Education, Care, Health and Social Work (Therapeutic Sciences, Social Sciences)
- AQAS – Agency for quality assurance through the accreditation of programs
- ASIIN – Accreditation Agency for Programs in engineering, computer science, natural sciences and mathematics
Certification
The various quality seals are meant to help prospective students find their bearings in the further education market. The following external tests guarantee the consistently high quality of the further education offers of the Institute for Scientific Further Education and Human Resource Development:
- Certification according to the German industrial standard DIN EN ISO 9001: 2008 (2009 and renewed annually) for Quality Management Systems
- Recognized as an educational institution by the Accreditation and Licensing Agencyn for Employment Promotion (AZAV). Participation in the courses offered by the Institute can be funded by the Federal Employment Agency.
In addition, in September 2015 the Karlsruhe regional council recognized the Institute for Scientific Further Education and Human Resource Development as a certified provider of further education in the framework of the further education law of the State of Baden-Württemberg. This means that employees may receive up to five days of additional leave from their employer if they attend one of the courses offered by SRH University Heidelberg. SRH University Heidelberg is one of the first universities in the state to receive this recognition.
The master’s and bachelor’s degree programs of the Institute are also certified. Regular re-accreditation is an assurance of a course’s comprehensive practical relevance, quality and studiability, including for part-time studies.
