    Are you interested in obtaining analytical and empirical skills for solving the environmental problems of tomorrow? Are you interested in finding balances among environmental, economic and social interest?

    To answer these questions, you need a thorough understanding of the many approaches toward the environmental problems. M.Sc. in Environmental and Resource Management combine natural science, engineering and social science which enable the students to create sustainable solutions by addressing the environmental problems of tomorrow.

    Graduates of the program attains a set of competencies, which allow them to work with a great number of different tasks in environmental management both in the public and the private sector, as well as in NGOs and stakeholder organisations. Graduates will be able to design and conduct analysis of existing or future environmental strategies and policies within an organisation or at a societal level.

    As a M. Sc. in Environmental and Resource Management your job opportunities will be many: for example working as an advisor for business leaders, who must consider environmental impacts of their decisions and develop competitive advantage. Environmental leaders will benefit from the business skills in combination with natural science, technical and economic issues in their proposed solutions to environmental problems.

    The program is based on mandatory and elective courses; as such the first two semesters are composed of mandatory courses whereas the third semester has a flexible content. Electives can be taken at University of Southern Denmark or Aalborg University in Esbjerg, abroad or partly in the form of practical experience (students must prepare reports in order to get credit for this).

    Programme structure
    M.Sc. in Environmental and Resource Management requires two years of full time study. The curriculum is built up upon a quarter structure, which means that new courses begin four times a year. The entire programme is therefore 8 quarters in all and each quarter constitutes15 ECTS.

    All compulsory courses are taking place at the first 4 quarters (the first year) constituting 60 ECTS in all. At the 5th and 6th quarters you will be able to take elective courses, constituting 30 ECTS, while the 7th and 8th quarters are intended for writing the master thesis also constituting 30 ECTS.

    Electives
    A total of 30 ECTS, all of which are placed in 5. and 6. quarters, can be taken in three different ways:

    Alternative 1: 30 ECTS taken as a combination of project courses, study courses and projects from the list of electives offered by the two Esbjerg universities.

    Alternative 2: 30 ECTS taken in total or in part from other universities, either in Denmark or abroad.

    Alternative 3: 10 ECTS taken as electives or projects and 20 ECTS taken as credit for practical experience. Reporting of this practice period is required.

    Program requirements

    The program M.Sc. in Environmental and Resource Management is designed to graduates from a wide range of backgrounds, including planning, social science, geography, natural science, biology, earth science, technology and engineering. Students are expected to be able to work with social science as well as technology. Numeric literacy and previous experience with quantitative data and models are an advantage. Depending on their level of expertise in these areas, some students may be required to complete supplementary courses.Entry requirements:A bachelor of science in environmental planning and management or a similar background.An English language test (TOEFL, IELTS or CAE) is required if your undergraduate degree was taken outside USA, Australia, New Zealand or Great Britain. Our minimum requirements are as follows: * TOEFL 575/230/88 (paper based / computer based / internet based) * IELTS minimum 6.5 * CAE with a minimum result of C or the CPE (the CAE and CPE are only accepted from a Cambridge Network or from University of Michigan)Please not that it is not sufficient to enclose a letter from your former university confirming that English has been the medium of instruction during your undergraduate studies.If you are an EU/EEA, Nordic or Swiss citizen you also have the following option:You can document your English skills by way of your secondary school diploma and thereby show whether you have acquired an upper intermediate level in English comparable to the Danish B level. In order to do so you need to document: number of English lessons per week, number of weeks per school year and the number of years you have attended high school.     The board of the University of Southern Denmark decides from year to year which study programmes will benefit from the scholarships and the University will recommend the most qualified applicants in these programmes for a scholarship. Therefore it is not possible to apply for this scholarship. If you are a non-EU student and applying for a programme which offers this scholarship you will automatically be considered for it.

    BHJ Scholarship
    Only available for students applying for a master programme at our Sønderborg Campus

    Six one-year scholarships are issued pr. year: three for studies within the technical field i.e. Mechatronics and Innovation & Business respectively, and three are for studies within the field of business administration i.e. Business Relationship Management.

    A scholarship of DKK 40.000 may be granted if and when the requirements are met. It is paid in two instalments of DKK 20.000 per semester. The scholarship grant depends on acceptance and enrolment as a full-time student in one of the above mentioned programmes.
