A range of core and optional modules, all written and tutored by acknowledged subject experts, ensure that students complete the programme with:

* an in-depth knowledge of record keeping theory and practice and the ability to apply this knowledge in the public sector or in commercial or specialist environments,
* a comprehensive training in the creation and management of current and semi-current records an understanding of the legal and ethical issues relating to records management and Information rights.
* an understanding of how digital records should be managed and retrieved,
* a knowledge of the issues surrounding the preservation of records and in particular the proper use of metadata and other techniques to help ensure long-term survival of information and records.

Additionally these innovative educational programmes delivered fully online for UK and international students which provide:

* The core skills and competencies needed to work as a records manager, information compliance officer or digital preservation manager in a rapidly evolving professional environment.
* Core modules which examine professional theory and practice in Records Management and the legislative frameworks, theory and practice which inform work in information and compliance in the UK.
* Optional modules which consider areas of Records Management or Information Rights in greater detail enabling students to build on the core skills acquired in the earlier modules and develop their knowledge according to their needs or interests
* An understanding of the legal and ethical issues relating to archives and records management
* An understanding of record-keeping practice and tradition

Core modules examine the fundamental skills needed to work in Records Management and compliance with Information Rights legislation. Optional modules are designed to focus on specific elements of Records Management or Information Rights in greater detail, allowing students to tailor their qualifications. Module authors from the UK and overseas, are expert practitioners in their field which ensures that content is both current and relevant.

Students are encouraged to discuss what they have read and how it relates to their own experiences and most modules combine a mixture of theory and practice. Throughout the modules regular online tasks provide a structure by which students can measure their progress.

Honours degree at first or second class and relevant professional experience. Applicants must be employed or otherwise active in an appropriate professional environment. Alternative qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Transfer of credit from other study programmes may be possible, subject to the approval of the University of Dundee. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 7 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa.
