It is widely recognised that wed couples and families in Australia, and also its neighboring area, labor under enormous and ever-increasing pressures. Individuals and local communities, confident that the Church has a certain wisdom to give on such things and emphasizing the Church's pastoral care, look for renewed direction in this area. The John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family started in July 2001 under the auspices of the Melbourne Archdiocese.
