Research Assessment Exercise 2008
The results of the last Research Assessment Exercise placed Liverpool within the top 10 computer science departments in the UK. All of the department's research activity was recognised as being of international standing, with 75% classified as internationally excellent and 30% as world leading.

The programme
The MSc. in Advanced Computer Science with Internet Economics is a novel and unique programme, the first of its kind in Europe, offering a range of modern topics that range from optimisation and computational game theory to network games, and modern applications in electronic commerce, such as Google sponsored search auctions. It is offered by the Computer Science Department, with contributions from the University of Liverpool Management School.

This programme is research-led with the aim of preparing graduates for research and/or IT careers. Towards this aim it puts emphasis on transferable job-market relevant skills, like: quantitative analysis, optimisation, Internet Advertising, etc.

Note: Up to 30 credits of the recommended advanced modules may be replaced with selected level 3 modules with the proviso that a graduate of the University cannot elect to take a level three module if they have already passed that module as part of their undergraduate study.

Lecturers

You'll be taught by lecturers who are internationally known for their research, in particular experts in the area of Economics and Computation. This programme is offered to study on-campus.

Entry requirementsThe minimum entry requirement will be a 2:1 honours degree (or above) in a subject area closely related to Computer Science, Economics, or the intersection of these two subject areas. Applicants who do not offer a 2:1 (or higher) honours degree will still be considered if their performance in mathematics and/or foundational computer science and/or foundational economics courses during their studies is at least in the 2:1 range. The applications will be considered in a case-by-case basis.Students with an Economics (and related) honours degree are required to have a mathematical element in their first degree equivalent to first year undergraduate basic maths, e.g, basic set theory, basic logic, basic graph theory. This requirement is fulfilled by the students offering BSc degrees in Computer Science. International qualificationsInternational Qualifications Applications from international students are welcome. International qualifications will be evaluated in line with the National Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) guidelines.English language qualificationsAll applicants must have reached a minimum required standard of English language and are required to provide evidence of this. Qualifications accepted by the University can be found on our International webpages English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 TOEFL paper-based test score : 580 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa. The IELTS test is most widely accepted by universities and is also accepted for Tier 4 visas to the UK- learn more. Work Experience No work experience is required. It is University Policy to encourage mature entry. Relevant work experience will be taken into consideration. Each case is considered on merit, but in such cases work experience is taken into account.

A range of awards, scholarships and bursaries are available for those undertaking postgraduate study at the University.

International students
The University of Liverpool administers and participates in many scholarship schemes for international students with the majority of the scholarships being awarded on the basis of academic merit rather than hardship. Students must normally hold an offer of a place on a course before they can apply.
