Early Modern and Medieval Art is a specialisation of Leiden University's Master's in Arts and Culture. In this specialisation, you study visual art and visual culture from the period 1400-1750.
This specialisation has three key themes that are offered only in Leiden in this configuration: * The interaction between Italy and the Low Countries * The interaction between the arts, primarily between painting and sculpture and their architectonic context * Print and drawing art In your study of these themes you will work closely with the University Library, museums in Leiden and The Hague, and the Dutch interuniversity art history institutes in Rome and Florence. Excursions are a structural aspect of the specialisation. The MA in Arts and Culture is a comprehensive one-year programme that offers you the chance to explore art history across a broad range of specialisations. The programme is unique in that it studies works of art, buildings, material culture and design from the Middle Ages until the present day.
