The International Relations and Security Studies program at the University of Bradford offers students a comprehensive understanding of the complex mechanisms that govern global politics and international security. Designed to equip graduates with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, the program explores core topics such as international diplomacy, conflict resolution, global governance, security policies, and international organizations. Students will analyze pressing issues including terrorism, cyber security, peacekeeping, and geopolitical conflicts, developing critical thinking and strategic analysis capabilities essential for careers in government agencies, international organizations, think tanks, and the private sector. The curriculum combines academic modules with opportunities for practical engagement, including simulations, policy briefings, and potential placements with partner organizations. Emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches, the program integrates political science, international law, economics, and security studies to provide a well-rounded perspective on global issues. Students benefit from experienced faculty members who are active researchers and practitioners in the field, delivering up-to-date insights and fostering an environment of inquiry and debate. The program prepares graduates for advanced study or immediate employment in security consultancy, diplomatic services, intelligence agencies, or international development. With a strong emphasis on research skills, diplomacy, and strategic analysis, graduates will be well-positioned to address the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly interconnected world. The University of Bradford also offers excellent facilities, including dedicated research centres and a vibrant academic community, to support student learning and professional development. Overall, this program aims to produce critically aware, socially responsible, and globally oriented professionals ready to make impactful contributions in the field of international relations and security.

For all taught modules your learning will be directed, supported and reinforced through a combination of lectures, tutorials, small group seminars, virtual learning environment activities and guided private studies. Generally, for each module, you will attend one lecture and one tutorial each week during which you will be in direct contact with teaching staff.

The School of Management is committed to demonstrating the relevance of taught material to real business problems; you can expect to see guest industry lectures and the use of real industry sponsored business problems for assessment purposes.

Methods of assessment vary according to the learning outcomes of particular modules and the stage of study. Accordingly, a mixture of examinations, essays, group work and presentations will be used in assessment of your work.
